Ima cat lover- always have been, love to sit near a cat and always find myself stroking them (despite being terribly allergic!!) anyhow Ive had four little black kittens visiting me for some weeks- they are terribly wild but their mother- a lovely smokey grey tabby (also wild) came to me for food when she was carrying them and of course I fed her. She had six but two quickly disappeared, then she went (hope she has moved on as she was lovely)- anyhow for the last few weeks Ive supported the last four kittens and watched them flourish into lovely little things (Cat Protection promised to come and get them etc but never showed up)
They are now semi tame, they come to my call but I cant touch them. One little green eyed girl is very sweet........ one of the others, a strapping, gorgeous boy had his last breakfast the other morning, at lunchtime I was driving back from the stables and there he was on the road- all smashed up, his little life gone. I was so sad. He is still there ground into the road, just a fur patch and everytime I drive past I cry a little for his wasted life, its so sad.

RIP in little cat Thats so sad that no one could be bothered to stop and move him to the side of the road.
When someone hit a cat in front of my dad, My dad turned around. picked up the cat and took him home where we rang his owners and they came and collected his body (in a box!)

Oh the poor little darling. RIP little wild cat. Good on you for helping them out. I love cats to pieces. My little princess is sat next to me right now. We have two and loo cat - a butch old feral tom cat that lives in our outdoor loo. I sneak a bowl of biscuits out to him when OH's not around.

Poor mite. I hate to see animals dead in the road, it always makes me sad.
I've always maintained that you dont choose a cat; they choose you. I hope the others survive and have a good adult life.

I've never been too fussed on cats if I'm honest but I still wouldn't want any harm to come to any animal. Are you going to adopt the others? great for keeping the mice away ;D

Im working on the other half- he is ok with me adopting them as feral cats as long as it doesnt cost us anything (Yorkshire boy- very tight!) but the little green eyed girl is now touching my finger and being very friendly. I would lke to tame them and get them speyed etc so at least they will be left in peace. Going to get some wormers this week and just hope they avoid that road.

Oh thats soo sad. Life is so unfair. I hate how it only takes a second, then there gone. We lost a 6month old kitten on the road and It still upsets me badly, especially as Dad found him 3 weeks later about 150m the other side of the road, he must have suffered I'm glad your adopting the others as ferals. I dunno if its the same everywhere but a lady near us wrote to the RSPCA and told them she'd taken on strays, was there any help with spaying and they sent her coupons for free neutering. I like black cats never have met an unfriendly black cat, ginger ones always seem pretty tigersome.

I sometimes think that some drivers treat cats on the road as target practice - it's not always possible to avoid them, I know, but I feel that some people just don't try. It makes me sad - and I don't even like cats. I also get upset when I see the red squirrels that we have here squashed...

Oh they sound lovely. Would your OH relent if he saw their sweet little faces? We used to be always taming kittens (or trying to)as kids and ended up with a load of feral cats! 13 at one stage! Some were as tame as can be and others were always half wild.
Talking about tightness and spaying (if we were)- there is a county here (Cavan) which has a reputation for meaness and this indirectly led to a large population of cats as the females weren't spayed. So the government or the council subsidisied the vets and so reduced the cost of spaying!! Don't know if that still operates but perhaps worth lobbying for in Yorkshire???
I am thinking of getting a kitten myself but am worried about how it will get on with my dog. i know loads of dogs and cats get on well but Rags is very possessive of me and but I am sure we will work something out.

No- she has gone! Just two now. Id love to catch them but think it would be too stressful for them, so I will continue to feed and worm them and hope they survive ok.

Hi Scatty
well we have roped in the neighbours to feed while we are away- so at least we can continue to feed them. I think the boy with half a tail has wandered off- he was becoming less frequent so I think its a natural thing rather than an accident (hope iit is) and we still have Tippy Toes, who isnt shy of giving me earache for her breakfast but she is still very shy otherwise and wont let me near her. I do love having her in the garden and just hope she doesnt do anything silly! thanks for asking, hope your felines are well and enjoying their computer lessons!
