Basically tonight, my OH's car decided to break down.
We were coming up a hill at 40 (we never get more than 40, all the horses broke free from under the bonnet) and as we levelled out, it never went any faster which is odd.
Then as he put his foot to the acclerator it made a strange rattling noise, but only when the acclerator was pressed.
We then turned at a junction and the engine cut out and refused to turn over. We were going down hill at the time!
We pulled over and smoke poured from the engine and it smelt like burning so we opened the bonnet (I thought it might blow up and was doing it very very carefully lol)
Hlaf an hour later, still no life in the car and still burning so we rang a mechanic friend of mine who tried lots of things and in the end he told me to wack the starter motor and failing that, he didn't know what to do!
Nothing was happening so we had to get towed home which was terrifying.
As we were being towed, we lost any kind of power and the hazards went off, followed by the lights and all the lights on the dials and switches so we went home in the dark with no lights!
Apparently it could be the alternator but I think it might be a bit more serious and the head gasket which is really common in small engined puntos!
anyone have any ideas? Oh is really down as its his second car in less than 6 months!
Also, we broke down behind a guy who had also broken down. He had however been there since half past 6 this evening and what made me laugh was that his car was a brand new BMW z3!
My mechanic friend went "HA! thats going to be expensive!" lol
