I have been pretty sick for the last 2 weeks and haven't been able to do much more than the minimum with the horses. But I ended up having 2 great hacks this weekend.
Yesterday, I took JB on a long hack - it actually is a lovely hack but part of the way is along a road that is so narrow a car and horse can't pass plus its a twisty as a corkscrew and has really high hedges. Visibilty is nill ;D So impossible to go on a windy day as you can't here the cars - not that there are many but it only takes one!! After the really twisty bit its a wonderful hack with loads of hills and little roads and grassy tracks and (in the right season) stubble fields. JB was doing an impression of a green 4 year old and spooked at about everything ;D ;D He hasn't been like that for a while. He even got all jumpy going past a stationary lorry which is totally unlike him. I didn't really mind as he felt fairly active and was stretching down nicely when I gave him the rein (a lot of the time) - We had a nice canter in a field and he was reasonably stong - which again felt wonderful after all his feeble efforts lately. I was out ages and came back very happy ;D I met one of the other girls who had just finished her lesson (she has 2 lessons a week and goes show jumping twice a week) and I didn't feel the slightest bit envious of her which I regret to say I often do. I know its a bit pathetic after a long hack in mostly walk and a lot of spooking but I felt I had the best horse in the world.
Today I boxed up Cori (who loaded like a dream - he used to be a nightmare so be cheered anyone with bad loaders). I visited an old hunting friend and we went on a long and active hack - it was a lovely sunny autumn day and she lives in a beautiful spot . It was great fun and we caught up on a lot of gossip ;D ;D inbetween some very good exercise. Cori was a sweetheart and I think he enjoyed himself as much as I did. When he finished we put the 2 very sweaty horses in the field and had a lovely lunch with some other friends. Rose was served and I thought of Racaille but I am told it is the fashionable drink at the moment and all the cool people are drinking it!! Obviously, I am not very cool as I never really drink it. Co incidently when I returned to my own yard, I popped into the YO's house as someone was blocking the gate and I needed the car to be moved, and she and her OH and friend were all drinking rose!! I remember the same thing happening a few years back when everyone started drinking cave!! Sorry, this last bit is really random!!
