Decided to take advantage of the last day before the kids went back to school so the teenager and I went for a ride down to the river. R was naughty, very full of himself and when we got close to the old club he was really acting up, with excitement, I suppose. The teenager, who gets very tense when she is hungry and her blood sugar dips, suddenly lost it. She leapt off him and when I told her off, she flung his reins down on the ground R, quite naturally, trotted off. Only when he got a leg caught in the reins did he stop, thank God. A hugely chastened teenager got him back, no trouble and ate a cereal bar and was fine again. So we had a jolly picnic (actually I was furious and not at all jolly) so we had a huffy picnic. She was so contrite that I forgave her and then it was jolly and we got on bareback and went for a swim. The water was really warm which was just as well as we got soaked and had to dry out on the ride back. My boots were a bit grim, full of water. Here's R not happy about going back in without P. oh all right then ooops, that's the last you'll see of that whip (it sank) phew, back with P We then had to slosh home again but R was well behaved I'm glad to say. We dried out pretty fast as it was nice and warm. In all we did about 30km so I'd say we're on course in our training programme.

Not a good start, but the rest sounds lovely. That river looks amazing. I wish we had somewhere like that to go for a swim.

wow, you are so lucky! I ahve been as wet as your 'lucky to be alive' daughter several times recently but sadly due to good old english weather ratehr than a swim. In reality I think I would be petrified actually as I can't swim but it's a lovely dream. In fact you just live the dream don't you, you lucky mare!

Sounds like an Enid Blyton story!!! Glad it all turned out well. I love the pic where Rac is hunching his back, its like he knows the water will be cold on his tummy, like we do when we wade out to sea!
