I have just found out that one of the ornithologists we work quite closely with was killed in a canoeing accident with his 7 year old son. Its all over the news today, but they have only just been named.

I am in total shock, and whilst I personally haven't spoken him recently I used to know him resonably well. Some of my colleauges spoke to him on an almost daily basis and needless to say they are in pieces.

It really brings home our own mortality, so treasure those little things, you never know how long you have.
