August 12, 13 - Perseids Meteor Shower. The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, producing up to 60 meteors per hour at their peak. This year's peak occurs on the morning of August 12, but you may be able to see some meteors any time from July 23 - August 22. The waning gibbous moon will provide some interference in the early morning, so the best viewing will be in the evening before it rises. The radiant point for this shower will be in the constellation Perseus. Look to the northeast after midnight.
best place is apparently north of scotland away from street lights so waiting for it to be dark and hoping the cloud clears a bit!

Was too cloudy for us last night. Maybe tonight. I remember one a few years ago and it was spectacular - shooting stars every minute or two flying across the sky. We all sat out side laid back on sunloungers with duvets!

went out last night with OH, sat in the garden and saw about 5 or 6. It was brilliant as there was not a cloud in the sky, I'd never seen a shooting star before last night and they moved a lot quicker than I had thought they would - blink and you could miss them.

was too cloudy here - waited up until midnight but still cloudy.
I rememeber one years ago - 10 years or so and it was amazing there were hundreds of them and it was green - we should not have seen it according to weather people but we were on the Isle of Lewis and it was so clear - mind you Zoe I was thinking triffids as well!
being out and about on nighshifts over the last 17 years have been lucky enough to see amazing skies and last partner was into his astronomy so i got a lesson when we were on nights together.

I take it that this is not a hoax like the Mars thing? Mind you Zoe comments about the Triffids had me a little dissuaded from staring into the night sky (for a minute). Maxi - first time I ever heard anything good about a night shift!!
