Call me twisted, but I love upsetting the stereotypes, I secretly smirk when my heavy cobs get placed in dressage or show jumping above the £20,000 horse that hubby or mummy bought. I know I have put the work in a produced my horse to that standard. I don't want just another bay or chestnut horse, I want something different (hence my addiction to coloureds).
When Chompy was at the height of his problems a number of people told me to sell him to a riding school as that is all that he is good for (better than the meat man - sorry Jack) but that just made me all the more determined to get him right again. I could see his potential even if others couldn't and now I get compliments about him wherever he goes, and people always stop and point as such traditional cobs seems few and far between around here.
Its a bit like family, I can be rude about them but no one else can.

I have had so many put downs about Bernie i can't rememeber.
1. Cart horse - well not an insult, i like that type of horse so thanks for the complement 2. Eugh, why is my pony making friends with him(Bernie) he is so scruffy and he doesn't even wear a rug - Well your horse obviously has good taste, and he doesn't wear a rug because he is out of work and has about 3" thick hair. 3. Cobs are rubbish, can't do anything - Well my 15hh "useless" cob just beat your 16hh princess £15000 la di da at chase me charlie, better pop her back to the trainers yard. 4. Eugh (same lady as the previous eugh) treeless saddle, no shoes. Some people just don't know how to look after their horses - yeh cos treating your lami pony to belly height lush grass cos you feel bad for him once a day is really what the doc ordered. 5. Useless animal won't canter get rid - show off in canter and jumping every time they pass
You love your gorgeous savvy (even if you don't like her at times haha) sod what other people think. If eveyone and everything was the same life would be as boring as these people we are all whinging about.
I can't wait to go give my Bernie a hug.

I so have to reply to this - My daughter competes a gorgeous true to type traditional cob oh is an amazing horse 110% save and such fun. All season we had comments from judges - at championships as well as local shows - like lovely paces, true to type, fit not fat cob and one judge asked if would consider putting her in foal for him!!!! At the Festival of Champions the comment " I would not lower my self taking that thing in the ring"was made directed at my daughter. MMMMMMMMM imagine our joy when Emma and Fliss were ( best condition class BTW) pulled in 6th above the showiest of pretty pretty ponies!!!!!!!!- Sorry horse snobbery is the worse kind. Savvy sounds so so gorgeous and you sound like a proud mum to her so ignore the bitchy comments and just enjoy your lovely horse

Sav: Oops! I love Savvy (and sunshine - how is he by the way?) so tell everyone else to back off and butt out!
Becca: Bernie is lovely. As for cobs not being able to do anything (eg dressage/jumping etc) then someone haven't seen mine! Ok, we don't actually do any of the above, but she's got a gorrrrrrrrrgeous trot (which looks even more gorgeous with just-washed feathers flowing as she moves), a beautiful canter and a bl**dy fast gallop! She jumps 3ft from a standstill with bad hocks and is quite brave and will give anything a go if sher thinks I'll do it with her! Honestly, cobs can't do anything! Pah! (actually, maybe 'cobs' can't do anything because they aren't true cobs...they're all just fat ponies, hence the lack of ability)
firmacg: Me too. We've never competed or anything but even at the yard I like to show that less really is more (barefoot, treeless, bitless, natural i.e. hairy! etc). As for traditional, we get comments on how I should hog her mane and clip her etc, but then 8/10 people say she looks lovely as she is (hairy) and that its nice to see an un-clipped, un-hogged cob.

Savvys gorgeous you should be proud to have such a beautiful pony with such a great character they want all ther horses to be perfect or more like boring.
