Hi folks as usual i need to pick your brains. I am feeding some haylage at mo which comes in a bale 'timothy' pale green rectangle. Anyway i think it is going mouldy small white dotty bits in it. How quickly should a bale be used up, i am not gonna give it to Peter but it's nearly half the bale and i only opened it a week ago. It still smells nice. It has been warm i guess.

Unfortunately it has started to go. Ive known people feed it like this but I wouldnt risk it. Canny horses would ignore the nasty bits but how do you know if your horse is canny!

What about picking the white mouldy bits out? Would it not be ok to feed then?

Personaly I wouldn't feed haylage if it were over a week since opened. i'm lucky in that on my yard a bale is shared between everyone and therefore we have a fresh one nearly every day in winter Zx

In the hot weather should it be unwrapped completely as soon as you open it?
