What should i expect a 4yr old cob to weigh? I knw he is growing and has gone very bum high, he is currently nearly 14.2, and very prone to weight gain. He is moving to his new field next week on his own so he will have a muzzle on. We are goin to start to soak his hay but for only like 10mins or so. He is only on Chaff and garlic atm too. As of 1st may he was 445KG. Are we doing everythin right for him? pic of him currently  And this is toby who his owner doesnt think is fat!  |

Hmmm, that boy is a porker. Can't tell about yours though: can you feel his ribs without having to prod your fingers in really hard?

do you know how to condition score? I check neck, ribs, point of shoulder and point of buttock, and score him. I always used that in conjuction with a weigh tape to keep an eye on my boys weight.
And poor Toby. Anyone could see he's overweight... Maybe you could print off a condition score sheet to show her, if she doesn't believe he's fat?

Has he got a gutter along his neck and his he got a fat build up on his crest? If so, he is too fat! Kieran has went from 423 to 449 and he is a 14.2hh connemara - he is lost a good bit now that we are properly restricting his grass (finally) and he has gotten a few good workouts the last couple of weeks so hes back to 430 - i can still see the beginnings of a gutter on his butt though!
Poor Toby! Good suggestion from holly - might waken her up!

how can she not see tha Toby is fat?, sam is looking good to me but if just on chaff garlic and grass, you may want to think about a feed balancer to make sure he is getting all is vits and minerals especially as he is a growing boy

i really dont see how she can not believe toby is fat! He does really well on it i mean i weighed him today and he has put on qutie a bit of weight recently. On the 1st of may he was 445 and today he was 478, he now has a muzzle on as he is in his new field on his own and aww i do feel sorry for him as he hates it and gives me puppy eyes to take it off him.
Weighed toby today and he was 498! thats like bigger than sam! and he is smaller. so what do u think sam SHOULD be? any ideas?
