On one of my daughter's forums here in France there is story circulating (with pix) of a teenager, who went to her field one morning to find her haffy gone ....
She followed a trail of blood to find what was left of her baby. The mare had been shot between the eyes, then dragged out onto the lane and butchered for meat. The b*stards had left her remains, such as they were, there in the lane....

that is just evil im glad i keep mine all in at night inside a barn so anyones got to get through 2 paddlocks by which time the dogs would be going ballistic

That is awful Poor girl and horse Im not against eating horse meat, but i am against some of the methods in which they go against it. |

I have to say that shot between the eyes has got to be better than left to live at some of the yards I have seen of late. Instant death or lingering cruelty? You decide.
If they catch the people who did this I want to know the punishment, I bet if it was England they would get told off and get a few weeks community service, the French on the other hand tend to be a bit less lame with there crooks.

My heart goes out to the owner - words can not express what they are going through. Tears flowed reading the article and my stomach lurched at the photos. The poor poor owner. How do you cope with that

I actually cannot comprehend what sort of person would do this. surely in france there are so many 'meat' horses about - look at all the failed/lame trotters for a start, that this would not be something you would need to do just for the meat? and why did they take its legs? its awful truly awful.

What sickens me most is the sheer waste of this young horses life. In a place where horse meat is available and the majority of it from animals that are knackered purely for their meat and are usually at the end of their lives (and I make no judgement or comment on transportation or use of horses for meat here) that this lovely mare should be killed like this and left in such an undignified way. It is over for her and her life was a waste. But what of the memories for the poor owner. Its the same sort of reaction for me when a child is murdered- a life cruelly taken and wasted. The sheer horror of it is overwhelming!

actually in this part of france at least, there is a huge campaign against horsemeat and i dont know 1 french person that will eat it
