OK- saw your post on the other thread- how exactly is the potty training going because my little boy is going through the anal stage and being very controlling with his poo! (means he will be close with his money in later life according to freud!) but its driving me crazy! He will use the potty if we leave the nappy off but you cant do that for 24 hours can you? Any tips? ?? Swap you as much horsey advice you can cope with if you give me the tiniest tip that sorts the little blighter out!! (is yours a girl?) brig

brig - I just became a hermit for 3 days and DID leave the nappy off for the entire day. we had a few pee-pee incidents but poo was fine, does that mean he will be like his mother and spend all his money?

Max is right.. Be brave leave the nappy off and just don't go anywhere for a few days.. When I worked at a nursery it was def the girls who learnt fastest and as for those orrible "pull-up" thingys forget it ! Little 'uns just think they still have a nappy on.. Good luck both.. Most important thing is not to get stressed about it and forget about timescales etc. All kiddies are different.

(is yours a girl?) brig Yes Brig mine is a girl and I know what you are going through - pure hell!!! Potty training still not great - however we bought a wee seat to sit inside the toilet and started using it today - she started by screaming everytime she was put on it but gradually throughout the morning she is actually sitting on it without any fuss - still the same old problem tho, sits on it for a while and the minute she gets off - ppppiiiisssss. My little darling (lol) likes to poo and pee pee in her pants and then likes to show me the end product - lovely !!!! My sis-in-law has runs a nursery in Canada and she says the best course of action is to (1) Don't ever use a potty, always the toilet (2) Give the child a reward, something they really like (miss likes stickers & I've done up a wee wall chart, so each time she goes properly she gets a sticker - needless to say we only have 1 sticker on the chart & dad gave her this as a reward for just sitting on the toilet. (4) Never use nappies/pull-ups, this only confuses the child (I've still been using them for sleep times tho, apparently a child can't control their badder correctly at night until they are approx 2 1/2 years). (5) If you child goes to nursery, tell them that you have started toilet training and that she is good at home, even when she's not *hopefully they will do it for you ;D How long have you been training for? What age is your wee boy? I've been at it since Monday & still no joy and my wee girl is 23months, maybe too young yet.

oh god he is nearly three but way too switched on for his own good. I was really relaxed about it- like lucinda says- they are all different but his dad was all stressed about it so started pushing him and now we have this sh*tty little control freak running around. Ive got a little plastic loo seat but he refuses this- I bought him a roary potty but he wont use this- he will sit on a little cheap plastic one but sits there for hours playing with himself! Thats it no more nappies- Ive decided!!!! Why are all the men in my life naughty at the moment? ?? brig

so glad i havent got this to go through! foals are so much easier, they just poo in the stable! the farmers grand daughter was amazed that Emir didnt wear a nappy as she said she had to wear one when she was 10 months old. she waited for ages and squealed in delight when he had a poo in the stable and had to go and inspect it!

Hey Maxie- forgot to add- yes he will be a spendthrift, oral/anal and phallic are the stages! If he gets stuck at any of the stages he will display certain behaviours in later life! Oral-- obsessed with his dummy etc- he may end up comfort eating/talking a lot etc Anal- tight with money/possessions/strict and regimented Phallic- lets not go there!!!! brig

The average age for wee boys is 3yrs old, (girls apparently are quicker)- so he's probably close enough now.
Maxie your experience doesn't sound so bad - 3 days!! I knew it was too good to be true to have a child that sleeps 7pm - 7am and be able to go to the toilet!!!!!!

I found my two were very different: the girl practically took her own nappy off at two, but the boy just wouldn't co-operate. I finally decided not to be brow-beaten by in-laws and my mother (you know: "Still in nappies is he?" grrrrrrrrrrrrr) and let him be for a while. When he'd forgotten the pressure I got my OH involved - well, it's the same anatomy and they seemed to like being blokes together. The pee went EVERYWHERE for a while, but at least it was pointed in the right direction (bought a little step for the boy and a loo in-fill so he could sit on the 'big' loo) and we agreed that potties were 'for babies'. Rewards and star charts are great too. Did the usual thing of sitting him on the loo after meals and then in the summer (he was nearly three by then) just ripped the nappy off for good. One very important thing: don't get stressed about it. If it's not working, put the nappy back on for a while. There is no 'right' time to train but they all get there at some time or another! You don't see many grown men in nappies (come to think of it, was horrified to see male sanitary pads in the supermarket the other day but presumably that is for illness? ?? yew)

YES YES YES YES YES YES ;D ;D ;D
I can't believe it but she's had her first poo (and it was poo) in the big toilet (little seat inside) ;D
We still had one little pee pee accident but we are definitely on a roll. We are keeping her entertained on the toilet with books and puzzles and we have put a chart on the wall with stickers as a reward - a few high fives, big kisses and hugs *All seems to be working (so far anyway) !!!
How you getting on Brig? I've ditched the pull-ups/nappies except for sleep times - my washing machine hasn't seen this much action - EVER

(Im sad- I even took his potty on the beach) He was dry last night but I too put a nappy on but he hadnt done anything in it. Please please please god let this be the start of something good!
Blimey though he doesnt half fiddle with himself- watched scooby doo together this morning and he had a little stiffy!
Good luck Dannyboy and anyone else going through this most traumatic of times brig

We haven't had any poo accidents today but a few pee pee ones!!! I knew I would regret getting over excited earlier. Anyway on the whole - big improvements for both of us all round by the sound of it.
