Silver - the grouse was that the club riders kept beating the happy hackers over the PTV because a club horse is more likely to be used to jumping/less fazed by stuff etc. It was a silly argument as the happy hackers should have been better at the POR - certainly the randonneurs (long distance riders) should have been. But you know what it's like, the people who felt that they had something exclusively for them felt 'shoved out'. Very silly.
The Napoleonic Code is what modern French law is based on. One of the great things it does for us riders is gives us the right to go anywhere except within fenced land (ie gardens, etc) up a private track that is clearly marked private, no entry, otherwise tough, you can use it, and along canal tow paths (bit odd that last one!) Everything else is ours to ride over, as long as we are nice and keep to the edge of vineyards, fields etc.

and there is a massive stretch of oil seed rape on here too. I wish we were like France though! that'd be awesome.
