Any suggestions for potty training - the 2 tiny legged type, that stamps feet and likes cartoons.
Have got the potty, baby pants and wipes - have only been at it for a couple of days, so early days yet!!!

i tried finlay at 18 months and he was just not ready, left it another 4 months and he was great!
i got a mat to put potty on and we sat and did the letters when he was on the potty. every 20 minutes and as jack says after every meal, dont put nappy back on, you will have accidents I left finlay bare bottomd for the time he was in the house and didnt really go out for 4 days.
huge praise when they do 'go potty' we did the potty dance! " yay finlay did a pee-pee, he did it in his pooty" whilst sambaing around the room!

Thanks for the tips - Been housebound for the last 2 days, little monster running around with just pants, have been asking her if she needs to go to the toilet - random answers, usually not the correct one as there has been a few mistakes. Anyway perserverance is probably the answer!!! As you both sugges I'm going to try putting her on the potty every 20-30 mins as I was just repeatedly asking her. Thanks again.

yeah now is a good time as when we done my bro it was quite warm so we just left him bare bottomd too, he wouldnt leave 'himself' alone all day but it did the trick! Also I know it might sound a bit evil but dont rush to change when she has an accident so then she knows that its uncomfortable and will think twice next time! Got that from Supernanny!

I know I have to be calm but I'm going MADDDDD!!!!!!! This has to be the most difficult thing on earth. Just this morning I put the little scoot on the potty - every 20/30mins as you suggested and after meals & nothing, no a single drop(3hrs). Then as I was getting her ready for her afternoon nap & put on a pull-up, what did she do within seconds!! PPPPIIISSSSS !!!!!! AAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH Maybe she's not ready yet - but she knows what its for, just applying it seems to be the problem. Could it be she liked the feel of the pull-up as like a nappy?

ditch the pull ups! they are too comfy and they can happily pee in them and not feel ugh.
pants and let her get wet and uncomfy. I know its awful when you need to go out but have lots of changes and you should be fine.
she maybe is just not ready. lots of rewards works well. we got little thomas characters for every dry day.

I'm not a Mother and have no practical experience however when i was a student nurse many years ago a Midwife told us to start potty training very early - I mean weeks! Hold baby on potty after meals until he / she pees! She swore by it. Another tip, as Maxie said, don't make nappies comfy - modern nappies are lovely, snuggly and dry. Good old terries are awful when wet and will give your child an incentive - what is the incentive to stop playing and go for a pee if you can pee in the nappy, not notice and carry on playing? PS my "bread and butter" is, amongst other things, the management of bladder problems in adults. I help those that can't pee and those that can't stop! Z

Went to the shopping centre today to get new Clarke Shoes for the little one. Went into Debenams family toilet - put her on the toilet but with no joy. Then 1 minute after leaving the toilet, soaking wet, so done a change. Then 5 minutes later, soaking again, so done another change (this time putting on a pull up) *in the background - dad losing it slightly, getting altogether stressed. then on way home, the bl**dy pull up leaked and car seat wringing. Takes alot of patience this potty training.
anyway quick question - did you still put a nappy on at night or did you go cold turkey (I've been putting one on)

When I was potty training my daughter at 18 months. I sat on her potty and did a wee, then stood up, showed her and said "mummy did wee wee, what a good mummy"................... Yea that is gross i know. She's 29 now, so don't tell her will you?

I have to say I didnt do night ones for ages as fin was such a deep sleeper he just wet the bed so it was a year before we ditched the night tie nappies.
they are all different his best friend was trained day and night in 2 days at 18 months but his sister is 3 and still not fully trained so dont panic if its not happening.
it is best not to go out at all i.e shops etc for the first few days.
I also did the look mummy did a pee pee! we now have the standing to pee so i have handed that particular job over to daddy since I dont have the equipment!

This has to be the worst day yet - I think we are regressing - She actually came into the kitchen today with a poo in her hand and said to me, whas zat mummy? Gonna ditch the potty and gonna just try the toilet tomorrow, less distractions. The ordeal continues!!!!!!

When the weather's nice you can leave their little bare bottoms in the garden with a potty all day. It worked well with both of mine.

I would love to try this slinky but I'm back to work next week and I'm not off until September again. Another prob is - we don't get any sun here in Northern Ireland - Bl**dy typical, cr*p all round!! Pardon the pun ;D

I didn't really train either of my kids. Back then there was no such thing as disposable diapers it was just the good old environmentally friendly but extremely uncomfortable cotton nappies that you rinsed, washed and hung out to dry.
When I went to the toilet, they would follow me in (no rest for the wicked) and I got the question, once they were able to verbalize, 'what are you doing.'
I told them big people used toilets and babies used diapers.
They wanted to be big people and I told them 'no you are just a baby.'
Of course they had to prove it to me that they weren't babies anymore and they trained themselves. I had a little potty they could sit on for their height but they used it for a step up to the 'big peoples toilet.'
They were both right around 22 - 24 months. Relax with your toilet training. Their bowels and bladders need to develop before they can be used. One of my teachers used stimulation to potty train her kids. She used an ear swab to stimulate movement at the sphincter muscle/ anus. She also said that wasn't really training them it was training herself to anticipate movement.
With raising children you will always have issues to deal with and if you want to survive and maybe even enjoy your children you have to pick and choose the issues that should be dealt with.
No kid wants to wear a diaper to their first day of school but they will want to try smoking, drinking and drugs. Lay your foundation for acceptable behaviors when they are young and choose your battles wisely.
