I have just found a kitten! He is so cute but I really dont know what to do. My mum mentioned she saw him the other day as she thought he was my nans cat but then worked out he wasnt. He was right by the main road. This morning my OH was on his way to the bathroom when he said that Phoebe was outside (nans cat). Even though nan only lives about 20 doors away I know that the cat dont come down as far as our house. So dismissed it. This afternoon my little bro (2 yrs) ran in from the garden, dropped a cat on the floor proudly statinf it was "Phoebe"....was not phoebe! This little kitten can only be a few months old, It has collar bu only an old grubby one with no number etc! What shall I do? Im having mega rows with my stepdad as he thinks we should chuck it out! But we live in a dangerous area and he is so young, not exactly well fed and has been hanging around for about 3 days! I really dont know what to do, he is curled up on the back of our sofa as I type, sound asleep with Boogie(my cat). So have put a tag on his collar, with our phone number and asking for the owner to call if they find the note... Will let him out tomorrow to see if he goes home. I thought cats were good with going home and such! He seems so comfortable and relaxed here.We let our cat out at around his age and he came back every night! I'm so confused ! What would you lot do?

If it was me I'd phone all the vets in the area as he might have had it might be microchipped for a start. If not and your step-dad really kicks off I'd take him to the local RSPCA place, and if anyone contacts you, you can tell them where he is. Also you could say to the RSPCA place that if no-one comes forward you would like him. Hope this helps somewhat. x L

I agree with lt0510, check the Vets, police and any rescue places in the area. Your own vet could check for a microchip. One of my cats has a nasty habit of climbing into vans if someone is here doing work on the houses and I'm always worried they will drive off with him.

i would agree with checking for a micro chip 1st off.
Cats are very disloyal (is that a word?) maybe the kitten was bought as a present and the family aren't giving it the attention it wants so it has gone to look for someone who will? thats how we got our old cat (we did try find the owner before we decided to take it in tho)

I do agree with checking for micorchip and contacting the RSPCA or cats protection league. However, cats don't always stick with the person they're supposed to. It looks like you've been adopted!

Any more news on the kitten? I know I would just be so tempted to keep it (if I couldn't find the owner of course).

Agree with all the advice here - vets shelters etc. Also a good place to put a piccy is the missing pets register (online) Having just gone through the anguish of a missing kitty these are all the places I checked. Maybe even put up 'found' posters in your locals shops/pubs etc. Wouldn't put a picture on - ask any potential'claimers' to describe the cat. The things poor owners are probably sick with worry. I know I was.

Thanks sattymare. I am putting posters up, without description for obvious reasons just my phone number. Had a look through the register and nothing in my area. And yeah when my cat was that young I would have put posters up on every single lamp post, shop, every door...But there is nothing!

If you've tried to find his owner and nobody has turned up, then keep him. He obviously wants to be with you and cats have a great way of making their own arrangements.
This message was dictated by the real Wu, who is a cat!

I think you should bow to the power and wisdom of the Wu for he is indeed a most perceptive feline

Wu is most grateful for your recognition of his power. He wishes the kitten and its new servant long life and happiness.

A victory for Cat Power. Felines must stick together and protect the small in a hostile world. They are very pleased when they can enlist the help of their good friends the Hu-Mings to achieve this end. Loud purring from Wu, who is looking forward to seeing portraits of the kitten.

Can't wait to see pic's of the little kitty, I just love cats to death, you could send him in the mail, kateflashy has new babies two althought they've grow now I bet, still waiting on for her kitten to arrive in the mail. I would love to have lots of land and take on all the stray's and injuried animals of the world and give them the love they deserve. I have a friend who found a stray puppy at christmas in sydney, brought him home to mudgee and he would be the best dog ever, imagin his life, could have turned out worse, I'm sick of the way people are so blar-zay about animals they have feeling too, at least the little kitty is safe with you aimee.

Cats are such fickle creatures - I've been adopted twice! Not sure why Molly chose me, she just hung about for a while, found the cat flap and moved in. That was last November and she's hardly been out since and she's ben ill and cost a b****y fortune but I consider her to be mine now. I'm sure your stepdad will come round. Yay a new kittie - pics asap please Zx
