*climbs on rebanna's soapbox* It is awful For the first time in years, I have to seriously think about how much money is going on the horses, and where I can make cut backs. What really gets on my goat, is that most companies are reporting a down turn in profits, yet the utility companies profits are up!!!!! We can't really choose to live without less water, gas, leccy ad such.

huh dont talk to me about electric - despite the fact they have sent the man in to read the meter three times over the past year, they have grossly under estimated our usage...just had a'catch up' bill of £450 - but its ok, coz we can spread the payment over two months - well whoopy fricking doo, that makes all the difference

My turn on the soap box!
What annoys me is that I work two jobs so i can afford all the things i have to pay out for (and to pay off debt), I rush around like a blue bottom fly working over 13 hours a day when i have my pub shifts and all my money seems to go on is petrol petrol and more petrol. I am shattered and all i get if grief from jumped up "18"year olds moaning cos i wont serve them in an over 21's pub. I am there to earn money to pay my bills not argue with freaking kids who have everything paid for by mummy and daddy!
I think we should go back to paying with chickens and cabbages and send brats to national service to learn some respect!!!!!!!! (wow i'm only 22, i sounds about 72!)

my car that i am learning in used to cost me £50 to fill up and now it is £70! I have a toyota rav 4 but i was thinking about flogging it. my OH is thinking about selling his Toyota Hilux so we only have one car as it is getting ridiculous. we were thinking about moving abroad. it was just a pipe dream that is becoming more appealing.

I Love my old Toyota Starlet :-D hee hee People definatley seem worried we run wood stove shop and EVERYONE has mentioned oil who has come in. Its sweeping fear through the nation. Next i predict that there will be wood shortages.
Part of it i think is driven by the media. No body wants to read happy news.
Luckily i dont do much driving last time i filled up it was 97p litre (about 3 months ago) today its 119 litre! i couldn't believe it. Oil/Petrol affect the prices of everyything.

went to tesco the other day and we get nearly the same things all the time and what used to cost £60 was £90! couldnt believe it! somethings got to give as this country is going to implode on itself and we will all be up sh*t creek! why are we taxed so much on fuel anyway?! in other countries the fuel and oil prices have gone up but we are taxed so much on it that it cripples us even more! USA are complaining that their diesel has gone up to $1.00 per gallon! we pay that a litre!!

The price of various items has gone up so much these days, but has anyone had a decent pay rise to match the ever increasing cost to live??

I so wish I had the bottle to move country my OH would go tomorrow but I'm just so scared with the language and the kids schools, etc. We went on holiday earlier in the year and I couldn't get over how cheap things were!! It really gets me mad when you see how small our country is and how we're having to pay the price in a bigger way than any of the other countries. I only work part-time because I have an autistic son and during school holidays find it difficult to get child care (as soon as you mention autism people just don't want to know) and he's not severe enough to get an disability allowance grrrrh. Plus I work for a company that supplies plant to house builders so I'm guessing my jobs up the creak come the end of this year if things don't pick up. My husband works in Lancashire (we live in Staffordshire) we can't afford to move so he's having to endure the travelling though he does car share with someone who lives in Cheshire. Luckily one of the livery's on my yard lives around the corner so we now car share to the yard to sort the horses out. And to top it all I'm off into hospital end of this month and will have to sign on for Statutory Sick as my company don't pay for sick leave Sorry got bit carried away ....

I have to agree with you all - everything is getting so expensive. I drive to work because going by public transport would be very difficult and take so long - walk, bus, train, tube, another tube and another 25minute walk! So I'm now spending about £40 per week on petrol! We pay over 50p in tax on petrol (can't remember the exact amount) compared to around 23p in the rest of Europe. Gas and electric are going to rise later in the year and although I'm over £200 in credit on each of them (they don't put it back in your account unless you write and insist on it ) I'm going to leave it there so I don't feel the price rise so much when it happens. I feel sorry for pensioners as their pensions don't go up and they have to then make difficult choices. I expect vet fees are going to go up as well. My Vet charges almost £40 for call out (don't know what it is for emegency call out) and almost £34 for an examination. Then everything else goes on top. A routine vaccination or teeth rasp is over £100! Are everyone elses charges similar given that we're in different parts of the country?

We get a free call out day at our vets on a Tuesday, so we have to plan all out vet stuff on tuesdays!
And I went down my local shop yesterday, a bottle of milk was £1.50, and a loaf of bread was also £1.50! Thats three quid just on bread and milk I was shocked!
And yeah OH wants to move away, Australia and Cyprus are crying out for builders so some of his workmates are going out there, but I told him if he wants to go then he will be on his own! But its getting more and more tempting now, not just with the credit crunch but all this knife crime and murders, its just getting stupid now. Not to mention that I will probably still be living at home when I'm 30 with the prices of houses and renting. Its true when they call it Broken Britain.

Are everyone elses charges similar given that we're in different parts of the country? our vet charges £27 for a call out and £30 for an examination. farrier is £50.00 for full set of shoes and £10 for a trim. Dentist charges £40-£47 for teeth rasped and vaccinations were £75.00 last year (that included the call out) might have gone up this year.

Our Farrier is £15 for a trim, (none of mine need shoes thankfully) I've just had my old nags teeth done. vet is £32 callout inc vat. Not bad the practice is about 40 mins away, Teeth rasp is £23.50 inc vat and satchets of bute are 57P each without vat. They old cow cost me nearly £50 in sedation and she was still fighting him with every once of her being. He said he gave her enough to topple a Shire.
I think it would make a good mastercard ad
Callout out from vet £32
32 satchets of bute £21
A teeth rasp £23.50
SEDATION £50!!!!
knowing a grumpy old mare is comfortable......Priceless

A colleague of mine has been trying to get a statement for his son, so he can ge specialist care from school, but it's costing him a fortune and taking ages. Another friend works at a school and she has confirmed that it's all to do with money. I think it's a crime to stop children from getting what they need for the sake of a few bob. When you look at how much we spend on criminals, it makes me so angry sorry, rant over
