For treats? Down here there is no culture of giving mints as treats but all the horses love dry bread (it's always bone dry and crunchy baguette, never soft). Sam always makes me laugh as he doesn't understand French treats: he's 'got' bread now and will steal it from my pockets but he hasn't figured out melon skins so the hooligans nick them from him. Yesterday he spat out a pear so Paco wolfed it down. What do your lot like? Is there anything especially British that turns them on, other than Polos?

Bananas! harry and murph think they're the ultimate treat but Pen (like me) thinks they are the most disgusting thing on the planet and won't entertain them. They also all love dates, they're a great handy sized treat and i believe a natural source of electrolytes...although not sure how many you'd have to eat!
Apples/nectarines/carrots/oranges/pears all go down well. Harry and penny like suede (could be turnip - not sure of difference), Murph will eat odd slice but not keen and leaves it if in his dinner, pen is the only one who likes parsnips...even Harry is not keen on them and that's from a pony who likes wormers!
They all eat horse 'sweeties' but pen and murph are both careful about they eat and have a good sniff first, (and anything nw in bucket doesn't get ate so meds are fun!) Harrry would be very easy to poison!

AJ and T both love any "horse" treats, mints etc and AJ will happily eat buns, biscuits etc but Tordi is much more cautious and will spit anything unusual out. AJ also loves fizzy drink especially coca-cola but he will drink most things (only small amounts off my hand, not in a bucket!) But Tordi won't touch it. In Spain we always take the bread sticks back to the horses after lunch and they love them so not surprisingly Tordi still enjoys dried bread.

Funny before i got into horses we had horses in our field and i dont know if its a rural thing over here but if there was any bread that went a bit mouldy/stale it would have got thrown in the field or hand fed to the horses and people would have always said do you give the horses a bit of bread. But ive never fed bread since except maybe the end of my sandwich (i want it for myself lol!) Ive never met anybody again in the horse world that would feed bread as a 'treat'. But any time i fed bread they seemed to like it!
As for treats in general i dont really feed treats, i dont have any interest in it. Murphy just gets his grass hay and hard feed, id never even give him a handful of hard feed or grass as a 'treat'.

It's taken 5 years for Indio to 'get' polos but now he's a polo monster! In general he didn't understand treats until a year ago, when he learnt about carrots and bread sticks. He also loves a handful of oats, he'd take the hand with them if he could ;-)
Pocholo's favourite is pear, though in general he's not fussy and will eat anything. He'll also take a slurp of beer given half a chance!
