Noticed the other day when doing Chompy's feet that his hooves are cracking really badly (for him) at the moment. Despite this his shoes are not loose and he doesn't look like he is going to loose them.
A few weeks back he gave himself a really hard knock when jumping and on the foot which he hit part of the front of his hoof had crumbled away, he also has a hairline crack running up the hoof quite a long way.
The farrier is booked (was coming anyway) and when I spoke to him he said it is probably just the dry weather at the moment which has caused it. I slathered the feet with Cornucrescine hoof ointment which seems to have put some moisture back in his feet.
I have always had to battle moist feet and thrush but its seems now I have gone from one extreme to the other, does anyone else have problems with cracking feet, and what do you guys use?

I have used Farriers Formula/Formula4Feet which is supposed to be good. Gem already had decent feet so i never noticed much change but theres so many people who swear by it. Ive also fed feelgood30 feet supplement which worked for my old tb too. ;D

Cornacresence is what I am always recommended. I think there is stuff you can put in feed that contains biotin. I'm not sure if that helps brittle hooves though. Your farrier will probably have some helpful info. If its not one thing its the other with horses- isn't it? Weather always too wet or too dry for them

naf hoof moise always works for me, but corncurcosene or whatever it is (in the red tub!) is meant to work too, although its expensive x

keratex hoof harderner for me or cornucrescine. Raymond has terrible feet and a combination of these and a hoof moisturiser, along with shoeing every five weeks has worked wonders.
