The vet rang earlier - Eddie has some pedal bone abnormalities and they want to rexray and do some nerve blocks lower down on friday, 8.30. Wants to nerve block navicular too... Is it just me, or is this not looking too hopeful?

I'll admit it doesn't sound good, but you never know...horses like to suprise us - keeps us on our toes! Really hope he's ok and its nothing too serious, but if it is, don't worry. As long as both you and him are happy then thats all that matters Big hugs sent to you and Eddie x

Hi Mae Thought it was somewhere there when you mentioned the knuckling over with the fetlock! But dont despair the xrays are to find out the extent of damage etc so they can work out treatment. theres so many treatments for pedal ostitis and navicular that it isnt as bleak as it used to be. Selling him is not going to happen for a while in anycase so at least he is with you and once they get the pain controlled he will be happier! Even remedial shoeing can have a dramatic effect and he's still young so stay positive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im hoping its nothing serious though. And without sounding awful, i dont want it to affect his sale value. I want him to be 100% and we wouldnt sell him unless he was, but we want to get him gone to a home where he'll get better one to one attention and more suitable home. I hope i dont sound callous and cold, i just have his best interests at heart.

HI Mae Your pragmatic- thats not callous and cold- remember he could have bruised his pedal bone and just need a long turnout and rest. I spoke to a vet at Newmarket about xrays and he said that all horses in work showed changes in the pedal bone and most to the navicular. He is obviously in pain now or he wouldnt be standing like that with his fetlock but that is to take the pain off the DDFT where it runs over the navicular, so its a symptom of soreness. Pedal osititis is so much better understood now so with shoeing you may be able to correct it altogether if its that. Remember to get a second opinion or even a third whatever the prognosis and if he is insured even consider sending him to Liverpool or Newmarket for their opinion. If the prognosis is poor then at least you will have tried everything and done the best by Eddie so keep your chin up and be positive.
