Now I like America- I like Florida- the people (face to face) are nice and friendly but there is a strange culture out there- especially when you get out of the tourist areas. There is a lot of zealots about (all manner of things) and they are really self centred. (I dont want to stereotype but its difficult not to) the thing is popsicle youve done what you can, youve tried to highlight a cruel and barbaric practice and you cant dictate their response, which is dassapointing to say the least. Good on you for trying- someone on there has got that fabulouus quote from Burke- did you see it??? Evil will triumph when good men do nothing................ well Popsicle you are a good person and at least you tried....forget them now and put your efforts into where it will have a response. brig
and a hug! x

Popsicle, don't take it to heart - these are the sort of people who voted for a president of such intellectual stature that he makes Homer Simpson look gifted.
PS Did you know that fewer than 10% of US citizens hold passports? They don't get out and about too much ..... ;D

So people are complete assholes! Quite clearly they have no compassion or feelings for anyone but themselves, so let them go out and shoot eachother - maybe then we'd be rid of a few more pillochs!(sp?) Like Topper said, let them eat lard and get even fatter. Does it look like we give two hoots? And '150 spam emails' - if you have hotmail etc, just select them all and delete them from your junk inbox...easy!
*wanders off grumbling about ruddy pillochs...need shooting (wouldn't actually do it but would like to)...poor animals...defenceless...skin them and see how they like it...grumble grumble grumble*
Is there anything else we can do (other than sign the petition - which I did as soon as I saw it) to help put a stop to such cruelty?
(anyone remember all the kerfuffle we had on YH about those poor horses in Amersham and how we all said we'd try to help...well I'm STILL recieving emials and letters from MPs saying their getting onto it and are doing their best to change laws etc on animal cruelty)

Aw Popsicle, don't take it to heart, as someone else said you only have to watch Animal Planet and some of the plonkers on it to realise that some Americans don't have a brain in their head (somewhere else maybe, but not in their head!) You stood up for your beliefs, a lot of people would just say yes skinning of cats and dogs is awful and cruel, but at least you did something about it, and you are to be applauded for that ... WELL DONE YOU Sooz

Thanks everyone. Feeling much better now. Can even see the funny side of some of their WEIRD posts. Last night they thought I was all 3 of the English posters and called me a Retard! (All 3 of me) Had to laugh really!!! Anyway today a couple of the Americans agreed with us and then they started arguing amongst themselves... Priceless!!! I think it probably is just a handful of them on that site that are inbred at least I hope so, although the law of averages with that number of negative posts suggests otherwise. Thanks once again though, you have ALL been great xx ;D

Thanks for the support, but we really need to keep it factual and polite otherwise we lose credibility. We musn't stoop to their level or we won't be taken seriously. Also their Mods will remove the thread and then it won't be there for people to see in the future. Know how you feel though!!

I sent a Pm to the one that stood up to them to thank her and urged her to try to spread the word out there.

The sad fact is that 99% of them aren`t taking it seriously and are not bothered in the slightest. What did one of them say `animals dont have rights`, this is an appalling thing to say but most of them agree. They weren`t polite to you when you first posted so I do think they are fair game to have a go at . They are now falling out amongst themselves which is quite funny and sadly pearl harbour has already been mentioned which I nearly brought up last night but thought better of it . They are Yanks and do need bringing back to order and I know the topic needs highlighting and pushing in everyones faces until something is done and is also one of the saddest things I have ever seen but slinging abuse at the beatniks was excellent.

America could be such a big influence on this though. Does anyone know any other animal type American sites i can try it on? Guess lots of people who have horses out there are hunters and gatherers like the flintstones LOL. Seriously though the fact that it still being debated on there means that good or bad it is highlighted and I bet lots (ok some) of their LURKERS really DON'T agree with them and will be discusted by their behaviour, thats why we need to keep our dignity me thinks. I really do appreciate all your support though. Glad we got you out of the LURK Topper. lol xx hugs

Got a nice message back from the one I PM'd. She says she is passionate about animal welfare too and says A lot of Americans love animals and are really not like the morons that gave us a hard time and said I was her hero, Bless. See it is just a few.

Hi Popsicle, I am being haunted by those poor animals and like you I want to do something, anything.
Not all Americans are like those on that forum, there are some very nice, kind and thoughtful ones. Just like anywhere else you have good, bad and in between. Though I'm quite happy to be Canadian.
The thing is, you can't let ignorant people stop your campaign. Their negativity only emphasizes the real need for people to become aware of how much the world needs to change. A few years ago I read a very well written article about how dogs were so sadly used in parts of Asia. Hung from a hook with their front legs crossed behind their back, and beaten with a stick to tenderize the meat. They were alive while this was being done to them.
Their skin is used to make leather goods. Sorry, I find this difficult to talk about. It to haunts me.
I haven't been buying anything made of leather that comes from an Asian country but I think it's time to stop buying anything period, that comes from there.
If anyone has other ideas on how we can help please let me know. I'm open to any kind of suggestion. Popsicle, if you think back on to any history, you'll see that someone had to make a start, no matter how small a step, one person has to do it. An end to slavery, the vote for women, an end to child labour...you and I might never see the changes in our lifetime but change will come.

I don't feel I can let it rest now I know about it. I know All Americans are not like those few on the American forum. Please see what you can do over there too. I am trying to get the main press over here involved. perhaps you could send the link to some of your top newspapers. So glad you feel this way too. You could try posting on the American site too, they seem to be coming round.
